Boxing Day Tsunami 2004

 

On the morning of Boxing Day December 26th 2004, I experienced the Tsunami. Having been caught in the 2nd wave, I managed to make my way through over 2.5km of water reaching levels of 2 meters to reach each of the two restaurants that were totally damaged. While the waves continued to surge, I managed to search &clear the buildings of any staff and rescue 5 staff off the roof of the adjoining building and walk them to safety. I then had to stand by and protect the properties from looting until the police presence later that morning. Valuable lessons were learnt that morning an the following days regarding Insurance Policy compliance & redundancy plans & the safe storage of data & documents.
